After the 1896 premiere, "The Seagull" was staged at the Alexandrinsky many times, the last in this series being the 2007 performance by experimentalist Christian Lupa. Elena Pavlova interpreted Chekhov in a sound drama format, while the text of the play is preserved almost entirely, with only minor cuts. The events of the play unfold in a conditional temporal context without specific markers. The performance features music created specifically for it by Oleg Gudachev, as well as popular songs from the domestic stage over the years that have become ingrained in the mass consciousness.
