Playing at war based on the prose of Bulat Okudzhava directed by Yana Tumina. The play is based on Okudzhava's novella about the Great Patriotic War, written in the 1960s. Twenty years later, Zinovy Kogorodsky staged a play based on it at the Youth Theatre, but the production was classified as "pacifist" and removed from the repertoire. Yana Tumina included excerpts from Okudzhava's interviews and his poems in her production. The play is infused with humanism and hope for a future where the word "war" does not exist. The main character is a 17-year-old boy, like his friends. They all play soldiers, and for them, war is something distant and romantic. The play uses non-linear storytelling and features many musical numbers. To connect more with modern young people, the producers filled the play with elements of the time - skateboards, graffiti, rap battles, parties - and transformed the stage into a skate park.
