A play by director Nikita Kobalev based on the psychological drama of the famous Jewish playwright Friedrich Gorenstein. The work of playwright, novelist, and screenwriter Friedrich Gorenstein is known in our country thanks to his scripts for films such as Tarkovsky's "Solaris," Mikhalkov's "The Slave of Love," and others. The plot centers around the fate of two sisters whose family lives in a small apartment in the city of Berdichev. The events of the play span three post-war decades. Each day for Rakhil and Zlota is similar to the previous one: scandals, quarrels, division of living space, children's problems. Thus, time passes unnoticed, and the characters of the play grow old. But not only the sisters and their surroundings remain unchanged, but almost all the daily life surrounding them. They do not try to look beyond the boundaries of their own little world and ignore the global changes in society that affect their lives in one way or another. Using the example of one Jewish family, the director examined the very concept of family relationships. The main character Rakhil ruins her daughter's life and has a strong influence on all the household members and others. However, the more the children do not want to be like their parents, the more similarity can be seen between them. In the story of any family, conflicts between the new and previous generations are inevitable. But despite this, family members are sincerely attached to each other, although their love is buried very deep and may not be visible at first glance. These people always have one unchanging commonality: they constantly live together, year after year.
