About

Close exoticism - a collage of stories from simple village grandmothers, transformed into a documentary parable about the fleeting nature of time. Svetlana Zemlyakova's play is an anthropological-ethnographic study of life in the Russian hinterland, based on the book "The Russian Village in the Stories of Its Inhabitants," the novel "Asystolia" by Oleg Pavlov, and supplemented with documentary audio and video materials. The backbone of the plot is a visit by a metropolitan journalist to a remote Siberian corner, where he interviews simple village grandmothers. Rural customs and everyday life, songs and fables - what was not long ago familiar and native now seems like rare exoticism to the inhabitants of the metropolis. However, the director emphasizes not only the contrast between life in the city and the village, authenticity and globalization. One of the key motifs in the production becomes the fleeting nature of time, the relentless flow of life. Zemlyakova's "Grandmothers" are played by young actresses - as if rehearsing their future, weaving together all the fragments of the life cycle.
