A biting psychodrama played out in a sterile multimedia environment - an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tracy Letts. "August: Osage County" is one of the most popular contemporary plays, in which the author astonishingly combines the dramaturgy of soap operas with deep literary psychological insight. This story about a marginal American family is a kind of parade of unhappy characters, taking turns dragging skeletons out of closets while trying to understand whether familial closeness is equivalent to emotional intimacy, or if a shared set of genes does not truly connect people. Girts Ecis, the director of the Mayakovsky Theater, decided in his production of the famous play to play on the contrast between the sterile space and the painful family relationships of the Weston family. The action, consisting seventy percent of scandals, hysterics, and arguments, unfolds against the backdrop of complex multimedia decorations that reproduce a life-size 3D model of a typical American home. The set designer, Latvian artist Gints Gabrans, managed to create the perfect illusion of well-being - which cannot be said about the characters of the production, who can be either fake or unhappy. The periodic disappearing special effects remind us of how empty life can be without the beautiful wrapping of self-deception, leaving only white walls from the beautiful home.
