About

The play about the events of World War I was directed by Alexander Molotnikov, a director and actor, a graduate of the directing faculty of RATI-GITIS. According to the young director, he has long been interested in the topic of World War I, about which today's Russians know much less than about World War II. In the early 20th century, war was perceived in Europe as something romantic, where one could show heroism and bravery, go beyond one's own complexes, and unleash all the accumulated anger on the "enemies." It is frightening to imagine how quickly the illusory perception of war disappeared: just yesterday these people lived in the rich and beautiful capitals of Europe, and now they are to spend 4 years in trenches - amidst dirt, chaos, death, and madness. The habit of romanticizing war has not disappeared since then, so the idea of Olga Tararina and Alexander Molotnikov turned out to be very relevant. The heroes of the play are soldiers of the French and German armies. They walk a tragic path: through utopian fantasies and blind patriotism to mutual hatred and the killing of people. As a result, they become completely empty, lose all moral guidelines, and are destroyed as individuals. The declared genre of cabaret, as is known, is meant to entertain the audience. This is what the master of ceremonies will do, but only up to a certain point... You can see more plays on our website in the theater section.
