About

Establishing strong ties with Poland since the early 1990s, Sibel Köse brings together prominent artists from the jazz scenes in Turkey and Poland in a special concert as part of the 36th Akbank Jazz Festival. Pianist Bogdan Hołownia is known for his masterful performance, theory books and works dedicated to Polish composers. Accepted as one of the most respected accompanists in the jazz world for his sophisticated harmonies and for the space he opens for soloists, the musician will be accompanied by İmer Demirer with his deep interpretation that is full of surprises. On double bass will be Wojciech Pulcyn, the backbone of the group whose friendship with Demirer dates back many years, and on drums will be Cem Aksel, one of Turkey’s most experienced rhythm masters. Having come together in different projects before, the group’s repertoire features jazz standards as well as selected songs from Kabaret Starszych Panów, prepared for Polish television by Jerzy Wasowski and Jeremi Przybora between 1958 and 1966. With the support of the Consulate General of the Poland Republic in Istanbul, this special night will take place at Akatlar Cultural Center on October 4, and invites listeners to witness the unifying power across geographies of jazz through a cultural bridge extending from Warsaw to Istanbul.
