Lost kingdoms, underground utopias, and lunar expeditions - this retrospective gathers science fiction films where heroes seek a better world and confront its dark side. From Méliès and early cinematic fantasies to major dystopias - rare copies, subtitles, and curator presentations. The program is structured as a journey through different eras and languages of cinema. Here, the genre's pioneer Georges Méliès coexists with early cinematic fantasies from the early 20th century, a Czech adventure story about the "river of time," a British dystopia inspired by H.G. Wells, an American jungle saga about a secret city, and a Soviet screen space expedition to Venus.
