About

A series of morning screenings of Soviet melodramas about love in the Grand Hall of "Illuzion" brings together comedies and dramas from the collection of the State Film Fund on one screen. 35 mm film, live dialogues, and recognizable characters help to spend the last winter weeks in the company of warm, honest, and very different stories about feelings and to remember how cinema taught to talk about the most important things. In the Grand Hall of the cinema, archival copies of Soviet melodramas about love are shown in the mornings. 35 mm film, live grain, and familiar voices return the viewer to the cinema where feelings are expressed aloud, and important decisions are hidden behind simple everyday scenes. In one cycle, films from different decades are gathered, and the schedule clearly shows how the tone of conversations about love changes - from light laughter to serious, almost painful confessions. February 6 - 10:00: "Hello and Goodbye" by Vitaly Melnikov opens the program with a rural story about a woman with three children and a local police officer who gradually becomes her support. A failed marriage, a husband who left "in search of the meaning of life", an unexpected chance for a new family, and the return of the past are presented with gentle humor and attention to the details of rural life. February 7 - 10:00: Next comes "The Girls" by Yuri Chulyukin - a Siberian village, snow, a lumberjack cafeteria, a self-confident handsome man, and a young cook named Tosya, who is not afraid to argue with the whole world. The film seems to remind that in love, it is not beautiful gestures that matter, but character, straightforwardness, and the ability to laugh at oneself. February 10 - 10:00: The film "Once Again About Love" by Georgy Natanson from 1968 transports the viewer into the world of research institutes and long flights. The story of a scientist working on the edge of risk and a flight attendant for whom flying is part of everyday life turns into a tale of the clash between the rational and the emotional. The heroes have to choose not only each other but also how to live with their profession and vulnerability. February 11 - 10:00: In "Three Poplars at Plyushchikha" by Tatyana Lioznova, one taxi ride becomes an opportunity to reflect on fleeting moments.
