Why did Oswald Spengler's ideas so excite Russian thinkers and why are they returning to them a hundred years later? In the early post-revolutionary years, a real intellectual debate erupted around Spengler's work "The Decline of the West." Russian authors argued with Spengler, criticized his conclusions, but closely observed his way of thinking about culture - the "morphology" that examines the character, rhythm, and form of entire epochs. In his report, O. M. Sedykh (MSU) will show how this approach was interpreted in Russia from the 1920s to the present day. The discussion will focus on the collection of articles from 1922 and how the ideas of the German philosopher resonated with Berdyaev, Frank, Stepun, Bukshpan, as well as writers and poets such as White, Blok, Karsavin, Mandelstam, Voloshin, and Platonov. Special attention will be paid to how A. F. Losev formulated this thought in "Essays on Ancient Symbolism and Mythology."
