At the meeting, fragments of Plato's dialogue "Phaedo" will be read in Russian translation and the concept of the immortality of the soul will be discussed. "Phaedo" occupies a special place in Plato's legacy: it is entirely devoted to the question of whether the soul can exist after the death of the body. Together with philosophy teacher Konstantin Kazachenko, participants will analyze the course of Plato's reasoning, seeing the strengths and weaknesses of the Platonic solution. Followers of Plato's ideas will also be touched upon, including Kant, who arrives at the idea of a metaphysical world of "things in themselves" through epistemological issues, and Schopenhauer, who spoke of the will to live. The seminar will suit those interested in philosophy, the history of ideas, the humanities, and intellectual conversations.
