About

Young researchers will analyze how Maximilian Voloshin and Alexei Losev understood sound, number, and time. They will discuss parallels with Nietzsche and Bergson, and the connection between music and words. What makes music greater than just a collection of sounds, and why do philosophers return to it again and again when talking about time and the beginning of the world? In this meeting, young researchers will offer a perspective on music as a way of thinking. Kristina Azimova, a master's student at the Philological Faculty of Lomonosov Moscow State University, will talk about how Maximilian Voloshin and Alexei Losev described the perception of music, relating it to the category of number as a primordial element. A separate topic will be temporality: in the sound element, time is felt as continuous movement. Here, a parallel will emerge with Henri Bergson's concept of duration, where melody becomes a tangible model of experienced time. The conversation will also touch on the world-creating function of sound in Voloshin's work, connections with Rudolf Steiner and Pavel Florensky, as well as the relationship between music and words. Against this backdrop, Losev's idea that from the ocean of the alogical musical element, logos and myth are born becomes particularly clear. Where to go in Moscow today, KudaGo knows.
