About

From October 21 to 24, the 'Aurora' cinema invites viewers to a retrospective dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Nikita Mikhalkov - one of the most recognizable and controversial directors of Russian cinema. On October 21, Nikita Mikhalkov will celebrate his anniversary - 80 years. For 'Aurora', this director is a long-time and close friend: he has presented almost all of his premieres here. The cinema has hosted screenings of 'Burnt by the Sun', 'The State Counsellor', 'Tender Age', 'The Thief', 'Kraken', and of course 'The Barber of Siberia', which ran in St. Petersburg without interruption for two and a half years. This is an unprecedented case in the history of Russian film distribution: Mikhalkov himself came to meet with the audience six times, each time gathering a full house. The retrospective will open with the film 'The Barber of Siberia', an epic about love, duty, and the clash of cultures. Viewers will also see the director's debut film 'A Native Among Strangers, a Stranger Among Natives' - an intimate western about trust and betrayal, which became one of the symbols of Soviet cinema in the 1970s. Additionally, the cinema will screen the drama 'Kin' - a poignant story about human closeness, in which Mikhalkov, as always, virtuously combines irony and pain. The program will conclude with the film 'Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano', based on Chekhov's play 'Platonov'. This retrospective is an opportunity to see the journey of Nikita Mikhalkov in its entirety: from a young debutant to a master whose works have become part of the cultural code of the country. For more details about the director's retrospective, visit the cinema center's website.
