On Wednesdays at the "Gogol House", traditional film club meetings take place in the format of screenings and lectures. The Gogol House invites you to a series of free film lectures where outstanding films and their fate in world cinema are discussed. On May 13, viewers will see the film "The Woman of His Dreams" - a noir drama from the early 1950s featuring Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell. Before the screening, the history of the film's creation will be examined: according to one version, it was based on an unpublished story, and during post-production, the film was significantly reworked at the initiative of producer Howard Hughes. As a result, scenes were reshot and over an hour of new material was added, which noticeably changed the final version. On May 20, guests will enjoy a screening of the film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" - a musical comedy based on Anita Loos's book. The lecture will explain why the continuation of the popular story was received more lukewarmly than the previous part, as well as discuss cut scenes and editing features. In particular, it will address the appearance of Gwen Verdon, whose scene was removed from the final version despite her already announced participation in the credits. "Cinema Wednesdays" at the Gogol House is an opportunity to see classics of world and Soviet cinema on the big screen while immersing oneself in their cultural and historical context. Thanks to the head of the scientific and methodological department of the "Gogol House", Svetlana Panchenko, each meeting turns into a deep conversation about the language of cinema and time.
