About

A meeting where East meets West: a unique perspective on translation as a cultural bridge between Korea, Russia, and Japan. What is the role of translation in shaping literary traditions and national identity? Why does translation become a mirror of cultural connections? These and other questions will be discussed by guests at the presentation of the Russian edition of Higyeon Cho's book "The Forgotten History of Translation." The book is a study of the role of translation in the formation of modern literary processes, especially in East Asian countries. Higyeon Cho focuses on the unique triangle of Russia, Japan, and colonial Korea, tracing how the exchange of ideas and artistic forms influenced the development of literature. Translation here is not just a tool, but an independent phenomenon that shapes the perception of text and culture as a whole. At the meeting with readers, invited experts, professors from the Eastern Faculty of St. Petersburg State University, Inna Tsoi and Anastasia Guryeva, will reveal the context of the book and share their knowledge of Korean literature, both traditional and modern. All entertainment in St. Petersburg is gathered on our website.
