About

How do music, dramatic action, and audience perception connect? Historian and theater theorist Olga Averyanova will present a book on the synthesis of arts in musical theater, tracing its development from ancient Greek tragedy to the modern stage. Musical theater is born at the intersection of several arts: music, dramaturgy, stage action, space, and the work of artists. But what exactly transforms them into a cohesive whole, and what laws govern the connection between the stage, the author, and the audience? These questions are dedicated to the book by Olga Averyanova, historian and theater theorist. The meeting will discuss the synthesis of arts and how it manifested in different eras. The author examines the development of theater from ancient Greek tragedy to the modern musical performance. The focus will be on the ways different artistic languages interact within a single work. A separate interest is the philosophical perspective on the perception of theatrical action. The book explores how the audience interprets what happens on stage, how visual, verbal, and musical elements connect, and why their combination can change the impression of the performance. Admission is free; tickets can be booked online in advance or obtained at the box office of the House of Losev before the event begins. After the presentation, visitors will also be able to view temporary exhibitions for free.
