About

Tatiana Kasatkina, Katerina Korbella, and Tatiana Magaril-Ilyaeva will present the new two-volume work and discuss the surprising findings of contemporary researchers of Dostoevsky. One of the most studied novels in Russian literature continues to provide researchers with material for new discoveries. The meeting will focus on the two-volume work from the series "Dostoevsky's Novels: The Modern State of Research," dedicated to "Crime and Punishment." The authors of the research and guests of the meeting will discuss observations that allow for a new look at the characters, their motives, and other details of the novel. Listeners will learn which scenes from "Crime and Punishment" change the understanding of the famous formula about the "trembling creature," talk about Razumihin, Porfiry Petrovich, and the fate of Svidrigailov, as well as how the theme of women and human dignity is revealed in the text. Additionally, researchers will show where Dante is present in the novel, discuss the books that Sonia Marmeladova read, and talk about the relationship between the novel and icons and religious painting. Admission is free; tickets can be arranged online in advance or obtained at the box office of the House of Losev before the event begins. After the meeting, visitors will also be able to view temporary exhibitions for free.
