In the Great Hall of the Sergey Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art, the premiere screening of the animated thriller "Restlessness" will take place. This is a hypnotic story from the Nika award winner and Berlin Film Festival laureate Leonid Shmelkov - featuring mesmerizing music by Sergey Kuryokhin and absurd humor. The plot revolves around Yasha and his friend Bernard. After veering off the highway, the heroes stop for the night at a provincial hotel, only to discover in the morning that leaving is impossible. The guests behave increasingly strangely, and then begin to mysteriously disappear one by one. Director Leonid Shmelkov describes his work as a unique blend of David Lynch's aesthetics and the atmosphere of "Groundhog Day." The screenplay is based on the magical realism of Julio Cortázar's story "The Captured House" and a reinterpretation of the myth of Odysseus, stranded on an island with the nymph Calypso. It is a poignant story about the feeling of constricting space, loneliness, and love, where gallows humor becomes the only way to process inner anxiety. A special place in the film is occupied by the sound design, which immerses the audience in a state of half-sleep. The mesmerizing works of St. Petersburg composer Sergey Kuryokhin are performed by violinist Alexey Aigi along with the ensemble 4′33″. The musical score intertwines with screeches, monotonous humming, clicks, and creaks, forming a dense fabric of altered reality. The film was created by the SHAR School-Studio with the support of the Film Foundation and has already gained recognition at the Moscow International Film Festival, Suzdal Fest, and the Big Animation Festival. The distribution company "Pro:Vzglyad" will release the film for wide release on July 30.
