About

The poetry of the Acmeists, in the work of museum staff, transforms into a lively dialogue with the city and the reader. In the workshop, participants carefully analyze Akhmatova's lines, listen to comments, share associations, compare their impressions, and grow from passive listeners into co-authors of the reading, finding their own meanings. In these meetings at the library, Akhmatova ceases to be a bronze monument and returns to the reader as a living interlocutor. Participants find themselves in a space where a line born a hundred years ago suddenly resonates with today's worries and joys, and the familiar childhood city outside the windows seems to play along with every intonation. The format of the workshop resembles a creative laboratory. The staff of the Anna Akhmatova Museum, Marina Yelpasheva and Elena Jumuk, read the poems of the Acmeists, pause on details, explain the cultural context, and show connections between the poetic image and biography, between the history of the city and the author's fate. There is no lecture in the usual academic sense here: listeners are constantly involved in discussion, asking questions, trying to hear something personal in familiar texts. It is important that the conversation is built not around the "correct" interpretation, but around personal experience. Each participant is free to read the lines in their own way, comparing them with their own memories of St. Petersburg, with their own sense of time and memory. In this format, poetry ceases to be something abstract; it returns to everyday life - helping to articulate experiences, to talk about complex feelings in precise, measured language. The meeting will suit anyone who loves the literature of the Silver Age, is interested in the history of the city, and has long wanted to "understand" the poetry of the Acmeists but feared dry academic comments. Here, complex things are explained vividly and clearly, without simplifying the meaning. For those who are already well acquainted with Akhmatova's work, the workshop becomes a way to look at familiar texts from a new angle and share their reading in the company of like-minded individuals.
