The full director's cut of Julian Schnabel's metaphysical thriller will premiere on the Russian screen. Oscar Isaac plays a writer drawn into a hunt for Dante's manuscript, while the plot intertwines a criminal adventure with reflections on love and creativity. New York writer Nick Tosches receives a commission: a mafia boss demands the finding of the manuscript of the 'Divine Comedy', written by Dante himself. The search turns into a dangerous criminal adventure, where the authenticity of the document, the price of art, and human obsession are closely linked. Simultaneously, the action shifts to the 14th century - to Dante himself, who is searching for a form for his future work and trying to connect love, faith, and personal experience. Julian Schnabel based the film on Nick Tosches' mystification novel 'By Dante's Hand', but refused a straightforward adaptation. The director juxtaposes two eras and transforms the detective intrigue into a conversation about the author's relationship with the text. The lead role is played by Oscar Isaac. The cast also includes Gerard Butler, Al Pacino, John Malkovich, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Franco Nero, and Martin Scorsese. Filming took place during the American actors' guild strike, and the independent status of the project allowed for the gathering of artists that are nearly impossible to assemble together in one film. The full author's version runs for 153 minutes and is being shown for the first time in Russia. The screening will be in the original language with Russian subtitles. Before the screening, the film will be introduced by Anton Fomochkin - a film scholar and critic. After the viewing, a discussion will take place.
