About

A special screening of the Soviet melodrama will remind how great cinema speaks about parenthood, guilt, trust, and hope. The story featuring Yuri Nikulin, directed by Lev Kulidzhanov, will be presented from a 35mm film and will serve as an opportunity to see a familiar classic as a living conversation about family, choice, and the power of late repentance. Lev Kulidzhanov's Soviet melodrama is a story about a man trying to break free from his own weakness and unexpectedly getting a chance to become close to someone. At the center of the plot is Kuzma Kuzmich Iordanov, who lost his wife during the war and gradually sank to the bottom. Learning about a village girl named Natasha, who is left without parents, he decides to deceive her: he pretends to be her father. But this lie sets off a difficult path toward responsibility, empathy, and human dignity. The screening is timed to coincide with International Father's Day. KUDAGO features the current Moscow program.
