A special screening of one of the boldest films of the French New Wave will provide an opportunity to see Godard on the big screen and discuss his language with a film expert. The French New Wave changed the perception of what cinema could be. In this screening, viewers will be able to see one of Jean-Luc Godard's most vibrant works in the original version with Russian subtitles. The film combines a crime story, melodrama, road movie, and auteur experiment. Ferdinand and Marianne flee from their ordinary lives to the sea, leaving behind money, danger, police, and past connections. But for Godard, the plot becomes not a straight road, but a field of play: he collides romantic gestures with absurdity, picturesque frames with sharp editing decisions, genre expectations with philosophical dialogues and cultural references. A special interest in the evening is added by a meeting with Vsevolod Korshunov. The film expert will introduce the film and discuss it with the audience, helping them to discern the structure of the film: why the partnership between Jean-Paul Belmondo and Anna Karina became so important for early Godard, how the director dissects genre schemes, and how this work influenced subsequent authors.
