The opening of Gennady Sotnikov's exhibition is a rare opportunity to see the theatrical graphics of a great artist who created images for stages across the country. Archives, sketches, landscapes, and expedition drawings reveal the personality of the master in a new light - subtle, vibrant, and remarkably personal. The Library of Book Graphics will host an exhibition dedicated to the outstanding theatrical artist Gennady Sotnikov - Honored Artist of the Russian Federation and laureate of State Prizes of the USSR and Russia. His scenography has left a bright mark in the history of domestic theater: over 150 performances designed by him were staged in Leningrad, Moscow, Minsk, Odessa, Novosibirsk, and many other cities. The exhibition represents a large-scale yet very personal slice of the artist's creative life. Thanks to the efforts of his daughter Nika Sotnikova, family friends, and sons Alexei and Peter, 67 works have been added to the Library's collection. Among them are costume sketches, decorations for Britten's ballet "The Enchanted Prince," portraits, sketches, and drafts inspired by ancient themes. Particular interest is drawn to the graphic sheets created during the artist's numerous expeditions to Siberia and Kamchatka. Sotnikov participated in scientific trips as a worker to get closer to the spirit of freedom, which was so important for an intellectual of his time. He drew on the road and completed works in the studio - these sketches of landscapes, scenes of everyday life, and faces became part of his unique creative style.
