An elegant interpretation of the famous opera based on the play by Alexandre Dumas fils. Giuseppe Verdi created "La Traviata" under the impression of the Paris premiere of "The Lady of the Camellias" - a drama by Dumas fils, which he wrote following his unsuccessful romance with the Parisian courtesan Marie Duplessis, who became the prototype for Marguerite Gautier, who in turn transformed into Violetta Valéry - the heroine of the opera, the title of which translates as "the fallen one." The character of a sinful yet strong woman, possessing inner freedom and courage despite her ambiguous position in society, passionately loving and ready for self-sacrifice, is reflected in Verdi's powerful music. The composer managed to convey the combination of carefreeness and tragedy in the heroine's image, building transitions from the feeling of all-consuming happiness to nervous tension and the slow fading of Violetta. The production by the Mikhailovsky Theatre, realized by Stanislav Gaudasinsky, is characterized by restrained taste and elegance.
