The director, known for his productions of Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov operas, tries his hand at French opera. The grand work by Cherubini, considered the greatest operatic tragedy, will be performed in Italian, translated by K. Zangarini. "Medea" is a challenging piece that requires extraordinary vocal skills from the performers. The casting for the role of Medea is particularly difficult - due to her part, the opera has rarely been staged, as the virtuosic coloraturas are hard for singers with less agile voices. However, in the mid-20th century, Maria Callas, who blurred the conventional boundaries between operatic voice ranges, handled this role brilliantly. And the opera experienced its second birth. No one could overshadow Callas's Medea, as the unique timbre of the singer provided her with vocal possibilities previously unknown. Competing with the diva in Titov's production are two well-known performers - Hibla Gerzmava and Natalia Muradimova.
