An opera that was once directed by Nemirovich-Danchenko at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre, in Titel's production, has been running for over 20 years. The performers change, the text is refined, the costumes are altered - but the performance remains magnificent and captivates the imagination. In 1924, Nemirovich-Danchenko created a musical performance at the Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre (now MAMT) titled "Carmensita and the Soldier," which later became one of the most scandalous productions of its time. In 1969, the German director Walter Felsenstein brought his version of "Carmen" to life at the same theatre. Thirty years after the "German version," in 1999, Alexander Titel created his "Carmen" here, which has been successfully performed on the theatre's stage to this day. "Carmen" is one of the most popular performances at the Moscow Academic Musical Theatre. The uniqueness of the production is evident in everything, from Carmen's unexpectedly short skirt to the scene of the final "crucifixion," when Jose and Carmen soar above the stage. Scarlet gypsy dresses, shiny military epaulettes - the costumes by designer Vladimir Arefyev, a multiple winner of the theatrical award "Golden Mask," turn the classic opera into a colorful show.
