The fairy tale of Kai and Gerda returns in the format of an opera, where every word resonates through ice and fire. This musical journey traverses worlds where trolls and blizzards meet, courage and faith, friendship and a cold heart. Sergey Banevich created this opera in 1980, inspired by Andersen's famous fairy tale. In 2025, the performance received new stage life - with a careful approach to the original source, an updated visual component, and fresh breath. The production is aimed at family audiences and is understandable even to the youngest viewers. On stage is a world where trolls shatter a mirror, and its shards turn hearts to ice. It is a world where the boy Kai forgets all that is good and follows the Snow Queen into her icy realm. Where Gerda, against all odds, walks through cold, fear, and the unknown to bring him home. The entire action is divided into two acts. The first shows the world before Kai's disappearance - with merriment in the square, the coziness of home, and the first glimpses of danger. The second act is Gerda's journey, from forests and the robbers' camp to the ice palace in Spitsbergen. This story has it all: anxiety and hope, sadness and inspiration, magic and humanity. The performance is accompanied by subtitles in Russian and English, making it accessible to an international audience and helping children better understand the plot. Banevich's music, bright and expressive, organically blends with the visual part of the production - from fairy-tale decorations to spectacular scenes of blizzards, captivity, and rescue. The finale is full of light: the word "eternity" is replaced by the words "I love," the ice melts, and the children return home.
