A colorful performance to the music of Giuseppe Verdi. In 1992, the assassination of Swedish King Gustav III took place. This grand event became the subject of many operas. Giuseppe Verdi was a revolutionary, and the theme of battles was very close to him. However, the Austrian authorities imposed a strict ban on showing murders on theater stages. Therefore, Verdi had to show ingenuity: he changed the time and place of the action. The events took place not in Sweden, but in North America. And King Gustav became an English governor. The central event in the opera was the personal drama of the characters, while the murder took a back seat. It turned out to be an interesting and captivating production. It should be noted that "Masked Ball" was a huge success. At the Mikhailovsky Theatre, the performance was directed by Latvian director Andris Liepa.
