About

Before the New Year, members of the book club will discuss one of Terry Pratchett's most ironic and witty novels. That evening, the focus will be on the novel "Santa-Hryakus" - a story with philosophical undertones and a generous portion of trademark humor. The Flat World is preparing for the Scary Christmas. People are decorating their homes with paper sausages and hoping for gifts from the kind Santa-Hryakus. But this year, everything is going off script: unknown forces have decided to eliminate the magical fat man. Instead of the usual rituals - there is anxiety and worry. And somewhere between comedy and criticism of social norms lies real magic - the kind we create ourselves when we learn to believe. The meeting will be hosted by Georgy Snegiryov - the curator of the book club and a person who knows how to engage the audience. He will suggest discussing not only the book but also its adaptation: the two-part film features Michelle Dockery and Mark Warren, known to many from "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell." It doesn't matter if you've read the novel long ago, are just planning to, or haven't finished it - everyone will find something to share and discover something new. And the New Year's context will add a special warmth to the discussion: after all, as Pratchett wrote, sometimes we need to believe in what doesn't exist - otherwise, where will it all come from?
