Members of the "Phoenix" book club will discuss "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury - a science fiction novel about dreams of conquering Mars and the fears of earthly civilization. The "Phoenix" book club will dedicate the meeting to "The Martian Chronicles" - a novel in stories, where the future of Mars reflects the issues of American society in the early 1950s and simultaneously speaks to the reader in a very personal language. Bradbury's stories have been adapted multiple times, including in our country. Participants will analyze how this unusual book is structured: how individual stories come together to form a single chronicle, how the tone shifts from dreamy to anxious, and what makes the Martian world so recognizable.
