About

Leading theatrical venues in the Northern capital will host Russian and foreign contemporary dance troupes. This time, almost all performances in the program are created by women. The geography of this year's festival is very wide, with participants including groups from Spain, China, Russia, and South Africa. This time, the focus of the program is on performances created by female choreographers. It is a special world of feelings and emotions, which can only be conveyed by a woman. The program will open with the performance "Sati/Sacred Spring" directed by the Si Xin troupe from Shanghai, China. This two-act evening is connected to two ballets of the same name from the "Russian Seasons," reinterpreted from the ground up. Si Xin herself will perform in this production for the first time here, at the "Diaghilev. P.S." festival. The Catalonia Ballet will present the performance "Juliet and Romeo" by Elias Garcia - the only one in the program choreographed by a male choreographer. However, the central character here is indeed a woman - Juliet - whose gaze and feelings are of greater interest to the director. For the first time, Hungarian choreographer Eva Duda, who heads her own dance company, will come to Russia. Her performance "Frida" with artists from the National Theatre of Hungary is dedicated to an artist with a vibrant temperament and a dramatic fate. The Mamela Nyamza troupe from South Africa will show the symbolist performance "Shaded Ensemble," which combines European dance and African traditions. Originally a solo performance, it later transformed into a production featuring dancers, an opera singer, and instrumentalists. The Nizhny Novgorod Opera and Ballet Theatre will bring the opera-singspiel "Abduction from the Seraglio" directed by Ekaterina Odegova. This is a dream-like performance about an enchanted garden with a magical voice that lures and draws one into its embrace. The festival will not be limited to performances alone. Workshops with Si Xin, Eva Duda, Mamela Nyamza, and Elias Garcia are planned. There will also be a concert of music by Leonid Desyatnikov, premieres of documentary films, and other events.
