The mediation will show how the artists of the "Uktus School" transformed correspondence into an artistic method. Postcards became fluchki, letters - переписьмами, and samizdat magazines - a space for dialogue and criticism. Participants will examine these forms of communication and try to discuss works in the language of the Sverdlovsk underground. The "Uktus School" originated in Sverdlovsk, but over time its participants found themselves in different cities. The distance did not destroy the community: artists continued to exchange texts, images, comments, and ideas. Correspondence gradually transformed for them from a mundane means of communication into an independent artistic practice. At the mediation, visitors will explore the significance of the message and how its form changed. Ordinary postcards became fluchki, letters - переписьмами, and magazines served as an open platform for dialogue, criticism, and mutual reactions. Each such object preserved the trace of a specific conversation and simultaneously became a work of art. Special attention will be given to how the Uktusians overcame distance through co-creation. One participant could start a work, another could continue, add to, or rethink it. Authorship became fluid, and the artistic gesture included a response, comment, and play with someone else's idea.
