At the Dostoevsky Library for one evening, pens and ink will be brought out, inviting participants to feel like writers of the 19th century. This session is for those who want to understand how letters can look and feel different. During the session, the history of the tradition of beautiful writing will be discussed, and why so much attention is paid to the shape of each line. Participants will be shown the basic elements of calligraphy and given the chance to work with a real pen - with ink, pressure, and pauses. In the process, they will be able to copy proverbs and short phrases that reflect the intonation of folk speech. The instructor will help compile this into a neat piece of work - a postcard or inscription with simple decor. By the end of the evening, everyone will have a sheet that shows not only the text but also the character of the hand that wrote it. Admission is free, but registration is required.
