About

How to bring a drawing to life without a computer? In this workshop, you will create one of the first optical toys in history - the thaumatrope. This fun and engaging activity will help children and adults feel the magic of movement and understand how cinema began. A true wonder in your hands! The workshop "Creating Optical Toys (Thaumatrope)" is a real time machine into the world of early visual tricks. A small disk, a string, a bit of imagination - and suddenly a bird is in a cage, and a fish is in an aquarium. Sounds incredible? But this is how the magic of animation begins, with the simplest constructions. The thaumatrope is one of the first optical toys of the 19th century that revealed the illusion of movement to the world. Such toys became the prototypes of cinema, as they were the first to show how still images could come to life in the viewer's eyes. In this workshop, each participant will not only see but also create their own animation wonder. The session takes place in the cozy atmosphere of the Children's Center of the Museum of Cinema. Young participants (and their parents!) immerse themselves in the process: choosing plots, drawing images, assembling the toy, and finally observing its "animation." The program is designed to be understandable, fun, and engaging - even for the youngest guests. Importantly, the workshop does not require special skills: all you need is imagination and a desire to create. Participants will not only enjoy a craft session but also make a real discovery - learning how vision works, how the brain processes information, and why simple visual tricks are still impressive. This is a great way to spark a child's interest in the history of cinema, show how movement is born from a simple circle of paper, and spend time as a family. The workshop is designed for a small group (only 15 spots), allowing educators to pay attention to each participant. And participation is completely free - with an entrance ticket to the Museum of Cinema. Don't miss the chance to touch the magic of optical illusions and create!
