The masterclass will introduce participants to Korean calligraphy - the art of brush writing, where line, breath, attention, and inner calm are essential. Participants will learn about Hangul and Hanja, try their hand at traditional writing practice, and create a postcard in Korean. Korean calligraphy combines visual beauty, precision of movement, and calm concentration. In this practice, not only the final mark on paper matters, but also the process itself: the position of the brush, the tempo, the pause, the pressure, the breath, and the attention to the line. In the masterclass, participants will get acquainted with this traditional art and try to create their own work. The session will focus on brush writing, which encompasses both Chinese Hanja characters and the Korean Hangul alphabet. Participants will create a postcard in Korean. The session will be led by Elizaveta Fedoseeva - an orientalist, translator, Korean language teacher, and a graduate of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Saint Petersburg State University.
