About

In this eco master class, an ordinary plastic bottle will turn into a bright Chinese lantern. Participants will get acquainted with simple upcycling techniques, experiment with colors, spend the evening doing a joint activity, and take home a handmade decoration. Here, what matters is not the skills of an artist, but the desire to try something new. Plastic bottles rarely evoke warm feelings: more often we think of excess waste than beauty. In the master class at the library, they find a new use for them - from a familiar household item, a bright Chinese lantern is born. Under the guidance of librarians, participants go step by step through the entire process from an empty bottle to a neat decorative object that can be hung at home or given to friends. First, participants get acquainted with the idea of upcycling and simple rules of an eco-friendly lifestyle. The organizers explain why it is important to be mindful of what we throw away and how creative activities help change our attitude towards things. Then the practical part begins: from a transparent or colored bottle, they cut out the base, outline the "petals" and details, choose color combinations, and discuss which pattern would be best for the future lantern. Next, paints, markers, ribbons, and other decorative details come into play. Even those who consider themselves completely unable to draw gradually loosen up, trying different lines and strokes, searching for their own style. There are always adults and children nearby, ready to offer suggestions, support, and simply share the joy of the process. Instead of a strict lesson, a lively creative activity emerges, where one can ask questions, share ideas, and observe how each person creates their own unique version of the lantern. Special attention is paid to safety and comfort: light tools are chosen, clear instructions are provided, and the pace of work is adjusted to the group. Kids learn to handle scissors carefully, plan the sequence of actions, not rush, and complete what they started. For adults, this is a way to unwind after a busy day.
