Young participants of the masterclass will learn how garbage affects the planet and why sorting is important for animals, plants, and people. Garbage seems like something familiar: you throw away a bag, a wrapper, or a box - and it feels like the problem has disappeared. But for nature, it's more complicated. Waste can sit in landfills for years, end up in forests and water bodies, interfere with animals, harm plants, and change the lives of entire ecosystems. The children's masterclass will help kids aged 6-12 understand why modern civilization is sometimes called "garbage civilization" and what each person can do to make the surroundings cleaner. The session will take place with the participation of employees from the eco-center "Losiny Ostrov." Specialists will explain how today's waste differs from organic waste of past eras, why plastic, packaging, and other materials do not disappear without a trace, and how recycling works. Children will learn how to sort garbage correctly, where it is stored, what happens to it next, and why a separate container for paper, glass, or plastic is a small but important step for the larger ecological system. At the end of the session, the kids will create a craft, see how unnecessary materials can take on a new form, and then participate in a quiz conducted by the RGBM children's specialist Svetlana Kazakova. Additionally, children will be shown books about contemporary artists who turn wrappers, boxes, and other waste into works of art. Where to go in Moscow on weekends will be suggested by our website.
