About

Immersion into the world of Kharms - bold, absurd, and starkly honest - awaits everyone who is not afraid of unconventional forms. To mark the 120th anniversary of the birth of one of the most paradoxical Russian writers of the 20th century, the House of Losev is preparing an evening that cannot be confined to the usual literary format. A rare archival film screening, staged readings, and the blurring of boundaries between past and present, biography and fiction, absurdity and meaning are planned. At the center of the program is the film "But They Did Not Understand the Words He Said," shot in 1989 at the Tsentrnauchfilm studio. The film was long considered lost, and now it is being shown in its original copy from the archive of one of the participants in the filming, Oleg Efimov. This is not just a screen reconstruction of the writer's biography, but an attempt to get closer to the very essence of his poetics: fragmented, absurd, sometimes frightening, but always precise. The second part of the evening will feature a reading of excerpts from the biopic play "KHARMS," written by playwright Olga Zaimentseva. The reading will involve the author herself and the art director of the House of Losev, Oleg Efimov. The event will be interesting to anyone familiar with the legacy of OBERIU, those seeking unconventional forms of dialogue with literature, and those who want to hear how Kharms can sound in the 21st century.
