About

On the eve of the winter holidays, the Gogol House invites you to discuss Andersen's fairy tales. "The Snow Queen" and "The Little Match Girl" are works about goodness, pain, dreams, and human warmth. On December 25, an open meeting of the reading club will take place in the theater lounge of the Gogol House. This time, the discussion will focus on two works by Hans Christian Andersen - "The Snow Queen" and "The Little Match Girl". Both texts have long become classics of winter reading and evoke a strong emotional response from readers of different generations. "The Snow Queen", first published in 1844, offers a look at the struggle between good and evil through the journey of the brave girl Gerda, a magical mirror, the cold heart of Kai, and all-conquering love. This fairy tale impresses with its depth of symbols, philosophical richness, and power of imagery. "The Little Match Girl", written in 1845, seems to be its opposite: a short, tragic Christmas story about poverty, loneliness, and hope. The meeting will be led by Gogol House staff Daniil Ryasov and Svetlana Panchenko. Together with the participants, they will explore the features of the Christmas story as a genre, discuss its role in culture, and share examples of other winter stories that have firmly entered the literary tradition. KudaGo features the current Moscow program.
