About

The city of Anna Akhmatova is the embankments, courtyards, and voices of the past that resonate in every line. In the workshop, the staff of the Anna Akhmatova Museum analyze the poetry of the Acmeists together with the participants, turning reading into a lively conversation about memory, language, and personal experience of encountering the St. Petersburg myth, which is being reassembled right before our eyes. Every poetry lover has their own Petersburg: in the lines of favorite poems or in a sudden recognizable angle on the street. For Anna Akhmatova, the city becomes a constant interlocutor - strict, beautiful, sometimes cruel, but always close. It is through the urban landscape, the sound of the Neva, and the memory of past eras in her texts that a special intonation is built, where personal history and the cultural layer of several generations merge. The workshop, prepared by the staff of the Anna Akhmatova Museum, is organized as a reading laboratory. Participants do not just listen to the comments of a philologist and art historian, but step by step create a semantic map of the Acmeist poems, comparing images, rhythms, and intonations, and listening to how the voices of other authors - from Pushkin and Dostoevsky to Blok - emerge through the details of the city. Thus, familiar school surnames come out of the textbook and begin to sound anew. An important part of the session is attention to the reading process itself. The hosts show how the perception of the text changes when reading slowly, highlighting pauses, recurring motifs, and non-obvious echoes between the lines and the real space around. Poetry turns out not to be an abstract set of images, but a way to see one's own city differently, to notice details that usually slip from everyday view. We tell on our website where to go with children in St. Petersburg.
