About

3D printing has long become a part of everyday life - from prototypes and spare parts to medical implants and designer objects. The lecture will explain how modern printers work, what the differences are between technologies and materials, and how 3D printing is changing conventional ideas about creating things. 3D printing has ceased to be an exotic practice of laboratories and large corporations: desktop 3D printers are appearing in schools, workshops, and apartments. At the meeting in MediaLAB, the discussion will focus on how a set of drawings and models turns into a tangible object that can be held, tried on, integrated into a mechanism, or given as a gift. Attendees will learn about the origins of the technology, the differences between the main types of 3D printing, and why engineers, doctors, artists, and designers need different types of equipment. A separate section will be dedicated to materials: plastics with different properties, powder compositions, photopolymers, as well as experimental directions where metal and biological structures are used. There will also be a discussion about the future of 3D printing: how it affects production culture, attitudes towards objects, ecological practices, and consumption habits. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss their project ideas, and understand how to start their journey in the world of digital production without delving into complex technical terminology. KudaGo features the current Moscow program.
