About

The section of the green line between "Sokol" and "Avtozavodskaya" can be traversed in half an hour, or it can be analyzed in detail at Fyodor Dyadichev's lecture. The talk will focus on stations that were conceived at different times and under different circumstances, yet are still perceived as a unified architectural statement. The focus will be on the first segments of the line, opened in the late 1930s and completed during the war years. The lecturer examines them as a sequence of decisions: from mosaics and colonnades to structures that later became models for other stations. The tandem of the artist and the mosaicist, whose works became recognizable throughout the metro, and the last station of architect Ivan Fomin will be recalled. There will be a special focus on "Paveletskaya" - with its unfulfilled original concept and how it changed in the process. Antique motifs by Chechulin with Corinthian columns will also appear - an example of how classicism adapted to the underground space. The lecture unfolds like a route with stops: at each stop, there is a unique story that usually remains outside the everyday journey. Free admission with registration. For details, please check the website of the Nekrasov Library.
