About

The winter season is a time to turn to art that reflects the main Christian stories. The main headquarters invites you to a lecture dedicated to Christmas themes in Western European painting. In the lecture, listeners will learn how artists from different eras and countries interpreted the story of the birth of Christ. The theme of Christmas and the worship of the Infant is one of the central themes in the European painting tradition, and each generation of masters brought its own accents to it. Works by Italian, Spanish, Dutch, and German artists will be examined-from early Renaissance altarpieces to vibrant Baroque canvases and works from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The lecturer will explain why certain details appear in the paintings: the gifts of the Magi, animals, flowers, fruits, and other elements that fill the images with additional meanings and symbols. The narrative will be accompanied by illustrative material, allowing viewers to see the diversity of artistic solutions and better understand how the Christmas theme has changed over the centuries. How to celebrate the New Year in St. Petersburg will be suggested by KUDAGO.
