About

The cross is a graphic sign with a long and complex biography. Viktor Troitsky will explain how the meanings of cross-shaped symbols have changed in the context of different cultures and eras. In the lecture, Viktor Troitsky will address the history of cross-shaped symbols. The starting point will be little-known diary entries by Albrecht Dürer, in which he expresses his thoughts on the cross and its significance. Special attention will be paid to the form of the cross, revered in Orthodoxy. The discussion will focus on how the graphic image acquires religious, cultural, and philosophical meanings, why even small changes in proportions and structure can be important for interpretation, and how the symbol continues to live, transitioning from one era to another. The lecture is part of Viktor Troitsky's authorial cycle "Contemplation in Forms," dedicated to the history and theory of world symbolism. If you don't know where to stroll in Moscow, visit KudaGo.
