About

How has medicine changed in the era of artificial intelligence and robots? Ophthalmologist Alina Safonova will discuss how modern technologies are changing the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases, and what solutions are already working in real practice. In the first part of the lecture, the expert will talk about the role of artificial intelligence in ophthalmology: what tasks it is entrusted with, how algorithms help to notice alarming changes faster, and why the final decision still remains with the doctor. Then the discussion will shift to the role of robotic systems in eye microsurgery, the mechanisms of stabilizing movements, and other technological solutions of modernity. The lecturer will also talk about the first remote eye surgery using a robot and 5G connection (subretinal injection), and the implantation of a biological cornea printed on a 3D printer. These examples help to understand how engineering and medicine are gradually assembling a new "architecture" of vision. Finally, listeners will be introduced to real stories that resemble cyberpunk: about "cyborgs," augmented reality glasses and lenses, solutions that slow the progression of myopia, and the evolution of soft contact lenses, including innovative Japanese developments.
