Romanticism, which arose in opposition to classicism and the Enlightenment, placed at the forefront the spiritual and creative life of man, celebrating the sublime. The lecture will discuss the artistic movement of the late 18th to the first half of the 19th century. On November 9, at the Engineering Building of the Tretyakov Gallery, art historian Lyubov Golovina will give a lecture dedicated to the art of the Romantic era. Listeners will learn about the worldview of representatives of the artistic movement, key issues, and themes of their works. The talk will cover the works of Caspar David Friedrich, Théodore Géricault, Eugène Delacroix, J.M.W. Turner, Orest Kiprensky, Alexei Venetsianov, Vasily Tropinin, and others.
