About

The lecture will present Karpovka from an unexpected angle - through factories, industrial buildings, and the fates of workers. Together with a specialist from the Museum of Petersburg Avant-Garde, listeners will trace how the area, its architecture, and the everyday lives of people changed against the backdrop of revolutionary events. The history of the city is often read through its grand facades, palaces, and embankments, but St. Petersburg has another important line - industrial. By the end of the 19th century, the city was growing rapidly, with new factories and plants appearing in areas that were then considered outskirts. The Petersburg side, including the Karpovka River area, became one of the places where industrial life changed the urban landscape, daily life, and social connections. The lecture will discuss the enterprises that operated near Karpovka and how they were integrated into the fabric of the area. The factory buildings here can be viewed as part of architectural history: their appearance reflected technical challenges, the aesthetics of the time, and ideas about modern production. All entertainment in Petersburg is collected on our website.
