What does everyday life in the Russian provinces look like through the eyes of contemporary photographers? The lecture will explore the visual language of the regions and discuss symbols and themes that often remain off-camera. Art historian Marina Hangalova, a member of the Union of Photographic Artists of Russia, will present her perspective on how photography captures reality beyond the megacities. The focus is not on metropolitan scenes, but rather on the everyday life of the provinces: the courtyards of Tver, the streets of Kaluga, the embankments of Samara. The photographers whose works will be analyzed offer their unique views on the daily life, atmosphere, and rhythm of life in Russian cities. The lecture will raise questions that are rarely discussed in public: what makes the province recognizable? What signs and images shape its identity?
