About

A lecture about Mikhail Stasyulevich - a historian, publisher, and educator who became the last honorary citizen of pre-revolutionary St. Petersburg. Participants will learn about his work in the city Duma, his contributions to the development of education, and the fate of this man whose name remained forgotten for a long time, while his achievements are returning to cultural memory. Mikhail Stasyulevich is one of the notable figures in the history of St. Petersburg in the 19th century. A historian, publisher, and educator, he dedicated a significant part of his life to the development of the urban environment and education. However, his path to the title of honorary citizen was not directly related to scientific works, but rather to years of public service and activity in city administration. At the meeting, listeners will learn about a man who represented the interests of St. Petersburg residents in the city Duma for 30 years. Working as the chairman of the public education committee, Stasyulevich participated in transforming the school system. Thanks to these initiatives, St. Petersburg's experience gained recognition beyond Russia and was awarded at the World Exhibition in Paris. Special attention will be given to the environment and professional circle of the hero.
