About

A conversation about the 'new man' in Soviet culture will begin with the prose of Andrei Platonov and reach the texts of Vladimir Makanin. The lecture will be conducted by philosopher Sergey Nikolsky at the Dostoevsky Library. The lecturer will analyze how the image of the 'new Soviet man' was formed and changed in literature - from early utopias to later, more complex and contradictory versions. The discussion will address why this phenomenon goes beyond a specific historical period and is connected to deeper layers of domestic history. Based on research from recent years, where the Soviet experience is examined through the intersection of philosophy and literature. The discussion will also touch on today's perspective: whether to distance oneself from this legacy or to engage with it in more detail. The lecture can be attended for free, but registration is required. For more details, please check the website of the Dostoevsky Library No. 19. Our website will tell you where to go in Moscow today.
